The Polish team was welcomed by the principal, Mr. Zsolt Harmath. The students received a small gift from the Budapest office of the Polish Tourist Organization, then toured the building, recalled memories of Warsaw, and discussed their tasks in Budapest. In the morning, they visited the Castle, where they learned, for example, that Poles were also imprisoned in the Ministry of the Interior building during the war, that a miniature replica of the Old Hussar statue was sent as a gift to the Polish ship Báthory, and that the Polish king János Sobieski is also depicted in a relief. They lingered at the statue of Hedvig and Władysław in the Europa Park, and then after a delicious lunch, they learned about hussar culture, historical territorial losses, the martyrs, victims and heroes of communism and nacism, Jewish rescuers, ecclesiastic figures, and the 1956 revolution during a historical workshop at the school. They looked for parallels and similarities between the historical events and figures of the two peoples. They made posters and gave short presentations. After school assignments, they visited the Polish memorial sites of Budapest in small groups and made a video, e.g. at the statue of St. Kinga, the Pilsudski memorial plaque, the Báthory statue, Dembinszky Street, Bem quay, etc. At the end of the day, they enjoyed the beautiful weather, the hustle and bustle of the city, or rested their tired feet in their well-deserved free time.
